Convenient At-Home Sleep Studies for Diagnosing Sleep Apnea
In collaboration with the physicians at Hypnos Health (https://www.gethypnos.com/), Behavioral Sleep Solutions offers at-home sleep studies for clients able to attend in-person sessions in Asheville, NC. This is not available via telehealth.
Sleep studies are often done in a lab setting and are excellent for diagnosing sleep apnea and various other sleep disorders. The downsides are availability (patients often have to wait weeks or months), cost, and comfort. If you are concerned about sleep apnea, you may be a good candidate for a low-cost sleep study you can complete in your home.
The Process of At-Home Sleep Studies
The process of completing an at-home sleep study through Behavioral Sleep Solutions and Hypnos Health begins with an in-person consultation in Asheville, NC. During this session, healthcare professionals assess the patient’s symptoms, medical history, and suitability for an at-home study. If deemed appropriate, patients are provided with the necessary equipment and instructions on how to use it. The setup is straightforward, and patients are given detailed guidance to ensure they can correctly operate the devices on their own.
Once the study is complete, the data collected by the monitoring devices is analyzed by sleep specialists at Hypnos Health. The results provide valuable insights into the patient’s sleep patterns and the presence and severity of sleep apnea or other sleep disorders. Based on the findings, a comprehensive treatment plan can be developed, tailored to the individual’s specific needs.
Addressing Concerns and Ensuring Accuracy
While at-home sleep studies offer many advantages, some patients may have concerns about the accuracy and reliability of the results compared to traditional lab-based studies. It is important to note that at-home sleep studies have been shown to be effective for diagnosing obstructive sleep apnea, particularly in patients with moderate to severe symptoms. The technology used in these studies is advanced and capable of capturing essential data required for a thorough assessment.
Behavioral Sleep Solutions and Hypnos Health take several steps to ensure the accuracy of at-home sleep studies. This includes providing high-quality, user-friendly equipment and thorough instructions for patients. Additionally, the initial in-person consultation helps to identify any potential issues or contraindications, ensuring that patients are suitable candidates for the at-home study. The data collected is reviewed by experienced sleep specialists who are skilled in interpreting the results and making accurate diagnoses.
Developing a Personalized Treatment Plan
Once the diagnosis is confirmed, the next step is developing a personalized treatment plan. For patients diagnosed with sleep apnea, treatment options may include lifestyle changes, continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy, oral appliances, or surgical interventions, depending on the severity and underlying causes of the condition. CPAP therapy, which involves wearing a mask that delivers a continuous stream of air to keep the airway open during sleep, is one of the most common and effective treatments for obstructive sleep apnea.
In addition to medical treatments, Behavioral Sleep Solutions emphasizes the importance of behavioral and lifestyle modifications to improve sleep quality. This may include weight management, avoiding alcohol and sedatives before bedtime, practicing good sleep hygiene, and addressing any underlying conditions such as nasal congestion or allergies that may contribute to sleep apnea symptoms.

How it works
Step 1
Contact me to schedule an appointment during which I will screen you for signs of sleep apnea and several other sleep disorders.
Step 2
If we both agree that the at-home study would be appropriate, you would be sent home with a SleepImage ring. It is a comfortable flexible silicone ring that would need to be worn overnight for only one night. You could complete your sleep study the night after our appointment
Step 3
Before you leave my office, you will set up the SleepImage app on your smartphone. The ring will transmit your sleep data to the app throughout the night. The next morning, the app will then send the data to the board certified sleep physicians at Hypnos Health.
Step 4
The doctors at Hypnos Health will evaluate the data and provide a written summary and diagnosis. Results are usually provided within 24 hours.
Step 5
If you are given a diagnosis of sleep apnea, you have the option of contacting Hypnos Health to schedule a telehealth appointment to discuss treatment options.
What is the cost?
